Feeling Overwhelmed Choosing Your Wedding Music? We Can Help

Music is one of the most enjoyable parts of planning a wedding, but it can also become a little overwhelming.

You start by thinking about your first dance. Then you realize you need ceremony music, an entrance song, parent dances, cocktail hour music, dinner music, dancing music, and maybe a last dance.

That's a lot of music to think about.

The good news is that you don't have to figure it all out on your own.

Start With the Songs That Matter Most to You

We usually encourage couples to begin with the songs connected to specific moments during their wedding.

Those might include your ceremony processional and recessional, grand entrance, first dance, parent dances, cake cutting, or last dance.

Some couples know these songs immediately. Others have absolutely no idea what they want.

Both are completely normal.

If you're having trouble choosing, our online planning portal includes wedding song suggestions for many of these moments. You can browse ideas for first dances, father-daughter dances, mother-son dances, introductions, ceremony music, last dances and more.

Sometimes seeing a list of possibilities is all it takes to find the right song.

Explore Music by Genre, Decade and More

Maybe you don't know exactly which songs you want, but you know what kind of music you enjoy.

Our planning tools allow couples to explore music by genre and decade, as well as popular and trending songs.

That can be especially helpful when you're trying to think beyond the handful of songs that immediately come to mind.

You may discover a song you haven't heard in years and think, "We have to play this at our wedding!"

That's part of what makes choosing wedding music fun.

Your Wedding Music Doesn't Have to Come From Our Lists

Our music suggestions are exactly that: suggestions.

They're there to give you ideas, not limit what you can request.

If there's a song you want and you can't find it in our database, you can enter it as a custom request.

We can obtain almost any commercially available song, so don't worry if your choice isn't already listed in our system.

We want your wedding music to reflect your tastes, not simply what's included on a list.

Already Have a Spotify or Apple Playlist? That's Great Too

Some couples have been building their wedding playlist long before they ever hire a DJ.

If that's you, there's no reason to start over.

Our planning system allows you to import music from Spotify, making it easier to bring the ideas you've already collected into your wedding planning.

You can also use your existing playlists as inspiration and continue building from there.

You Don't Have to Choose Everything

This may be the most important thing to know.

You do not have to select every song we'll play at your wedding.

Some couples really enjoy choosing music and want to give us a large list of favorites. We enjoy working with that.

Other couples might give us a handful of songs and artists they enjoy, tell us what they don't want to hear, and ask us to take it from there.

We enjoy working with that too.

And if choosing cocktail hour or dinner music sounds like one more wedding-planning task you don't want to deal with, we're happy to select appropriate music for you.

We're Here to Help

Our online planning tools are there to make choosing music easier, but you're not on your own once you log in.

If you're stuck on a first dance song, aren't sure what works well for a ceremony, need ideas for dinner, or simply aren't sure where to begin, ask us.

As Reno and Lake Tahoe wedding DJs, we've helped many couples plan music for their weddings, and we're always happy to offer suggestions.

Sometimes you know exactly what you want.

Sometimes you need a few ideas.

And sometimes you'd rather tell us what you like and let us handle the rest.

All three approaches work.

Final Thoughts

Choosing your wedding music shouldn't feel like homework.

Start with the songs that mean something to you. Use our planning tools when you need inspiration. Add your own requests when you already know what you want. And ask us for help whenever you need it.

Your wedding music is something we plan with you, not something you have to figure out by yourself.
